In Switzerland, the normal retirement age until 31.12.2023 is 65 for men and 64 for women. With the adoption of the AHV21 reform in September 2022, the normal retirement age for women will also increase in stages to 65 by 2028. This will then be referred to as the “reference age”
Your entitlement to a pension begins on the first day of the month following your 65th birthday (for men) or 64th birthday (for women). This rule can be found in the AHV Act. It also applies to your pension entitlement from the pension fund(BVG) and the receipt of benefits from pillar 3a.
Incidentally, your first year of life begins at birth and ends before your first birthday. This means that you will turn 65 after your 65th birthday, i.e. you will celebrate your 65th birthday. Example: Karin was born in November 1960. She turns 64 in November 2024 and is therefore entitled to an old-age pension from December 1, 2025.
